Someone tried to say it, but we nailed him to a cross, i guess thats still the way it used to be"
Stevie Wonder The sound of a last breath is loud enough to wake a soul at rest, and here in this room I imagine you writing your last poem each word a forthcoming blow with your end comes the closing of a dark flower, a voice, a sigh, a seed that fell into sand, I heard it, the thunder of your people's god bled out of your wounds. Allah weeps for the world that has lost a voice for a world that shuns beauty and turns to darkness and noise (Message edited by marty on November 16, 2005) |

A lovely tribute in your unique voice Marty. It would be nice if we could get these tributes published on the net in Afghanistan. |

Hi Marty Another fine tribute to the late poet Nadia Anjuman, beaten to death in Afghanistan a few days ago. Good work, Marty. I am pleased to see that her unfortunate death is urging us to pour forth in protest at her untoward passing. Well done, Marty...and good to see you back... you know, I just heard about this...it's partially because of my job & being incommunicado for long periods of time, but some times I just can't stomach watching the news anymore... the media slants almost as sickening as what they report... your concluding five lines...pure thunder, Amigo |

Beautiful tribute KS M. These words the calyx of the thought: I imagine you writing your last poem each word a forthcoming blow with your end [line] comes the closing of a dark flower, a voice, a sigh, I would suggest that you remove "line" and let the reader take the double meaning. Otherwise, no nits my friend. I hadn't known about this. A very sad event. KS E

Thank you for dropping by and commenting my brethren. We are all lucky here, to be alive, to feel appreciated for what we do, to have friends who are willing to help us find our voices and improve our craft. Out there are hundreds, perhaps thousands of souls aching to get out of their shell and discover their poetry. A poet died and a martyr was born, oh if only she found her way to wild, or we found our way to where she was sooner. Then again, perhaps it is not too late for her students to find us, or for us to find them. I have helped a few lady students here in their thesis about Afghan women and how their culture affects them, and I was equally shocked to find how oppressed they were. If only all of them would speak out as one, perhaps even death would surrender and choke at the sheer number of voices. KS E, Thanks for the suggestion, will do as you suggested. Julius, Same thing here amigo, the job gets too much of my time. Somehow the news as CTG shared was strong enough to wake me up. I visited wild to read poems yesterday and maybe comment some, and it was not my intention to write. The news however moved me so much. Sir Gary, Emailed you already. CTG, You have opened my eyes with your tribute Sir. Kathy, Zeph, Thank you for dropping by and commenting, yes it is a sad and tragic story, and it demands to be told and retold. If one poet would write one poem, even a ku about Nadia....and send them out to Afghanistan, what a wonderful tribute it would be. |

Marty, this was a moving tribute. You are right about the need to rail against such atrocities. The oppression of women in the East and Middle East is rampant. You might be surprised to know how many women are unaccounted for in the world, vanish for no other reason than they were born female, an insidious and hidden annihilation goes on and on and on. I read an article once that tried to point the finger at the women themselves for their roll in their own slaughter. It said they were to blame for participating in the culture that was annihilating them. It enrages me. That Anjuman lived to find her voice at all is probably a miracle. Penelope

Marty, Aside from the way you so elegantly captured the tragedy here, the sound is achingly beautiful. with your end comes the closing of a dark flower, a voice, a sigh, a seed that fell into sand, This is stellar writing, my friend. Thank you for honoring her with your voice. best, ljc http://ljcbluemuse.blogspot.com/

Marty, I can only echo everyone's comments about your piece. Lovely. That dear girl, young woman. So young. Her tragic death has opened many eyes, I pray ones that can do something. Take care, Morgan |
